Pangea is a pop punk band from LA. They were fucking great when I saw them play at Vince Lombardi High School in Pomona. I bought their record, Night of the Living Dummy, and it was totally worth it. Recommended.

Steve Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple yesterday. He’s a hero of mine and it’s upsetting news.

If you follow Apple, you know that Steve has been battling cancer for a few years. No one can control death, not even Steve. What he can do, and I think this announcement is part of it, is preparing us for it. His timing, as always, is impeccable. He understands the power of the seasons and has chosen the end of Summer to tell us about this. Had he broadcast this news during Winter, it would have been different, darker. Doing it right now tells me that while death is not imminent, he can see it on the horizon.

If Apple were a ship, this is Steve saying, “It’s still my boat, but my days at sea are over”. Now he will see how well he has trained his crew.

The best way I can relate my feelings on this news is with a reference to my favorite film. Requiem for a Dream is split up into 3 acts. Summer, Fall, and Winter. In between each act, title cards announcing the new season slam down on the screen like steel gates. It’s a simple, but powerful expression of the power of time.
