The vampires in Twilight are a metaphor for adolescents with HIV/AIDS, as far as I can tell.
Similarities: they can’t tell anyone about it, if people find out, they get outcasted or have to move, people are scared of them, and most importantly, they can’t have sex with Kristen Stewart. The vampires can represent the hardships of almost any “secret” problem, but the blood and sex connection really make me think the author had HIV in mind when she wrote it.
Other thoughts about the movie: I watched it with Asa, and I liked it. It’s cheesy, admittedly, but it’s perfect in what it’s trying to be. Kids of today will look back on it the way I look back on the Goonies—not fully gratifying as an adult, but just right as a memory.
kfan:
- If the vampires in True Blood = gay people, do the vampires in Twilight = Mormons? Is that why they are all dress so funny?
OK I absolutely must see this movie now.
